Welcome to Digital Learning Week 7! As a reminder, students are expected to complete 90 minutes of school work each day. In 5th grade, students will have 35 minutes for ELA, 35 minutes for Math, and 20 minutes of Specials. Science and Social Studies lessons and activities will also be assigned as “fast finishers”; which I strongly encourage all students to complete if they finish their math and literacy lessons early. I will be posting daily instructions for the students through Google Classroom where I will also be assigning all of the lessons. Most lessons this week are videos that have a google form for the students to show what they learned. I am planning 2 optional live help sessions for both of my math groups this week. Look at the Can Do's in the lesson plans to see the date and times. I will be available online during normal school hours to help students or answer any questions you might have. I am here to help! Your child knows how to use these online tools but I will be providing additional tutorials to help as well if needed. I have also attached a copy of the lesson plans/check list I will share with the students each day. The county has given us some guidelines for the grading policy please see the blog post titled "Grading Policy for Digital Learning" for all of the details and assignments your child will be receiving grades for. If you log into Infinite Campus and do not like your child's grade on an assignment they can retake the assignment. Please email me if your child is going to retake an assignment. If it is an assignment in Illuminate I will need to go in and reassign it to them. If it is an assignment through Google Form they can retake it at any time, just let me know so I can update their score. The week of 5/11 will be used to allow students to retake all of their assignments.

Overview
During the April 2, 2020, Fulton County School Board Meeting, guidelines for grading during Remote Learning were put in place. These guidelines take into account an understanding of the unique situations FSC students are being placed in and begin by stating, “Per GADOE guidance, limited instructional opportunities will not adversely impact students’ grades.” Further communication states that, “Provided 70 percent of Remote Learning assignments are satisfactorily complete, the 4th Quarter grades will reflect the 3rd Quarter averages as of March 12, 2020. If less than 70 percent of Remote Learning assignments are complete, an incomplete grade will be assigned on the report card, and students will be required to attend summer school for ELA and Math courses.” Using this guidance, Dolvin teachers will determine which 7 Remote Learning assignments from the 4th Quarter will be required for satisfactory completion in ELA and which 7 assignments for Math. The assignments selected will be communicated to families. Additionally, teachers will directly reach out to the students (and parents of students) who have not completed these assignments to let them know these assignments are required toward the 70 percent completion requirement. If students complete the assignments and require further instruction to help gain a better understanding of the standards covered, teachers will work directly with those student(s) through live meetings, recorded lessons, or other methods. Teachers will then allow students to redo any parts of the assignment where they did not demonstrate a satisfactory understanding of the standards covered. 4th Quarter grade reporting in Infinite Campus will reflect the following:
*Students with 30% or more of the assignments marked “I” may be required to attend summer school for either ELA or Math. Discretion will be used to determine which students will attend summer school regardless of the 70%. Students are still expected to complete 35 minutes of math, 35 minutes of ELA, and 20 minutes of specials every day. I am hoping that by keeping them on a schedule, they will feel a little more stable during this time of uncertainty. I also want to make sure students are prepared to start their middle school career with a bang! If there is ever a time when completing work is a challenge, please reach out and I can offer assistance. Welcome to Digital Learning Week 4! Welcome to Digital Learning! Over the next few weeks, we will be moving teaching and learning online. During this time, students are expected to complete 90 minutes of school work each day. For the first 5 days, we will be using county provided digital learning lessons. Please note that these lessons are remediation and do not align with our current units we are working on in class. These lessons consist mainly of worksheets. Students can print them out or simply write their answers on a piece of paper. Answer keys will be uploaded on Google Classroom to help them check their work. Because of this, I will be assigning lessons in Google Classroom; ones that do align with our current unit in order to keep our class on track. I will be available online during normal school hours to help students or answer any questions you might have. I am here to help! Your child knows how to use these online tools but I will be providing additional tutorials to help as well. Lessons can be found at https://dolvindigitallearningday.weebly.com/fifth-grade1.html but studets should also check their Google Classroom for lessons and assignments. I have also attached a copy of the lesson plans/check list I shared with the students. Students will have up to two weeks upon return to school to complete these assignments if needed. It would be beneficial for them to keep up with their work to avoid being behind when we get back to school. Week 1 News from your Specialists: (Music, Art, & PE)
